If you haven't heard of Darrin Allen yet and you love good ol country music then checkout his tunes @ western message board/soundclick.western/darrinallen He is a real cowboy, much like Chris LeDoux was, and has the best darn vocals around. Take a listen to some of his songs and I'm sure you'll agree. He is now performing in the western states and is booking through gigmasters. He has had rave reviews from radio, fans and country music venues. See his EPK @ western message board/sonicbids.western/darrinallen You won't be disappointed!

Writing the High Country:
A Fiction Workshop Intensive on a Western Cattle Ranch
[/SIZE][/I][/B]

Have you ever wanted to spend the morning on horseback and the afternoon writing about the quiet pull of a mountain range?

Here’s your chance: a week long fiction workshop intensive located on a working cattle ranch near the Snake River in the Idaho Tetons.  We will read a selection of classic and contemporary western writing, discussing both the legacies of the mythical “old west” and the realities of the “new west” as they play out in literature.  Ranching activities (trail rides, round-ups, camp fire yarns) and a rodeo will be interspersed throughout the workshop schedule.  Each participant will emerge from the week with a piece of short fiction.  Readings from Wallace Stegner, William Kittredge, Richard Hugo, Cormac McCarthy, Dorothy Johnson, Barry Lopez, Annie Proulx among others.

The Location: A working cattle ranch, Granite Creek Ranch is located in the Snake River valley in Ririe, Idaho, halfway between Jackson Hole, WY and Idaho Falls.  The ranch is on a five-acre lake, surrounded by magnificent mountain vistas. Yellowstone & Teton National Parks are nearby.  Accommodations are in rustic cabins.   The cost of the workshop includes all meals, lodging, and activities.  Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the ranch.  For more info go to: western message board/granitecreekranch.western.

Dates: July 9-15th, 2006.  Space is limited to twelve participants.

About the Instructor: Reif Larsen is a writer, filmmaker, and teacher.  He has taught writing workshops in South Africa, the UK, and New York City, where he currently teaches writing at Columbia University.  He is working on a novel based in Montana about cartographers, cowboys, and scientists.

VERNON PRO RODEO - May 6 & 7th 2006 .

The Louis family has been in the sport of Rodeo for over 33 years. We are into our 3rd generation of cowboys, which compete in the sport of rodeo.

We the Louis family have built a Rodeo arena for the sole purpose of hosting events or renting the arena for other purposes. Also it is used for rodeo practice times and team roping practices a few days a week. The arena is well used all summer long and is open for any type of rentals. The Vernon Pro rodeo is for non profit, we only try to improve our facilities with any money that is left over, after all the expenses are paid.

As a family we have started to promote the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA), by annually hosting the Vernon Pro Rodeo at Louis Estates Rodeo Grounds. The CPRA brings in cowboys and cowgirls all over Canada, and some from the USA.

The Vernon Pro Rodeo brings in spectators from all over the place, because we advertise with the tourist information centers. In addition it helps out the Vernon community, as people come to watch the rodeo and spend the weekend in the city.

We also have an event that is for High School kids also, which is called the British Columbia High School Rodeo association (BCHSRA). The BCHSRA will hold their rodeo on March 16 & 17th 2006. These students have to be in grade 9-12 to compete in this Rodeo. This event brings in students and parents from all over BC. The students are mainly competing for high school scholarships and there are a few that the association provides.

We are looking for sponsorships for our Vernon Pro Rodeo so that we can eventually save enough money to put in proper flush toilets, for the grounds and to improve what is necessary to keep the area safe and better for all that come to Louis Estates Rodeo Grounds.

In return for your generous sponsorship there are three options for hanging your sponsor sign.

Gold is if you would like your signs on the bucking chutes. When your sign is on the bucking chutes everyone looks for the cowboys to come out on their bucking stock. Also, every time the chute is used the signage name is mentioned, as a proud sponsor for the rodeo.

Silver is if you would like your sign around the arena, which stays there year around for all and anyone to see.  Our arena is built so your sponsor signage will be hung on the arena fence, facing our grandstand that holds 1500 spectators, with the background setting of the beautiful Okanagan Lake.

Bronze is if you would like your signage on the security fence, this area is facing the main road and will be seen all the time, by spectators and as people drive by.

We have 3 levels of signage for our sponsors:
Gold:     $1500.00    Directly on Bucking Chute Gate size 2' x 4 '
Silver:    $500.00    Infield facing spectators 4 x 8
Bronze:  $250    Security Fence 4 x 8

We look forward for your support and greatly appreciated sponsorship or any other form of sponsorship that will help provide financial help for the rodeo.

Sincerely,
Cecil & Carol Louis
Manager & Assistant Manager
